Start with the Chaos

Who the Hell is Reset Mama (and Why You’ll Never See Me Fake It for Pinterest)

Let’s cut the crap. I’m not here to sell you a pastel-colored dream life where the laundry folds itself, the kids politely ask for kale, and I sip tea while journaling my gratitude.   That’s not me, that’s not my house, and if that’s what you came for, there’s a thousand mommy bloggers who will gladly tell you how to color-code your snacks. I’m The Reset Mama. I’m the mom who hit burnout so hard the universe probably heard the crack. And instead of pretending it was fine, I built this messy little corner of the internet to say the thing most of us are too damn tired to whisper out loud: motherhood isn’t broken because we are — it’s broken because the system, the expectations, and the constant performance are rigged. My Story: Chaos, Court Dates, and Coffee That Wasn’t Enough I’m a single mom of three. I homeschool, I work full-time, and I’ve got health stuff that doesn’t politely sit in the background. Courtrooms? Been there. Doctor’s offices? Lived there. My vehicle? Currently st...

Acellus vs. Power Homeschool: The Real Mom Breakdown

Homeschool looks shiny until you start swiping your card and realizing half these “solutions” either break the bank or break your sanity. Two of the biggest names you’ll run into are Acellus Academy and Power Homeschool.

They sound like opposites, but really they’re more like fraternal twins — both running off the same Acellus platform, just dressed differently. What most parents don’t realize is that Power Homeschool is essentially Acellus without the accreditation, oversight, or interaction built in.

I’ve used both. Here’s the no-bullshit truth.

Cost Reality Check

  • Acellus Academy: Accredited, structured, full-school feel. That means higher cost, but you’re paying for the paperwork (transcripts, diplomas) and oversight.

  • Power Homeschool: Way cheaper. Looks tempting if you’re juggling bills and just need something fast. But the savings come with strings — no accreditation, no transcripts, no “official” anything.

For multi-kid households, this difference is massive. Acellus is tuition; Power is more like buying access to a giant content library.

The Hidden Difference Nobody Talks About

Here’s the part most parents don’t find out until they’re already signed up:

  • Acellus has interaction built into the backend. Kids don’t just click through videos — the system monitors progress, flags when they’re struggling, and in some cases even involves teachers.

  • Power Homeschool has zero interaction. Your kids get the same videos and assignments, but no teacher connection, no backend monitoring, no support if they hit a wall.

That’s the difference between handing your kid a workbook and hoping for the best vs. having an actual system that checks in.

Flexibility vs. Structure

  • Acellus Academy: Great if you need structure, accountability, or if your kid will eventually need credits/diplomas recognized by schools or colleges.

  • Power Homeschool: Great if you want flexibility, aren’t worried about official transcripts, and are comfortable filling in the gaps yourself.

What Both Platforms Actually Are

Here’s the part nobody tells you in the glossy sales pitches: both Acellus and Power Homeschool are built on video lessons with check-in questions.

  • No worksheets to hand in.

  • No reports to file.

  • No projects that get graded by a teacher.

It’s watch, click, answer, move on. The only difference is that with Acellus Academy, someone’s watching on the backend to make sure your kid is actually progressing — and with Power Homeschool, it’s all on you.

That’s not good or bad — but it matters if your kid needs interaction, accountability, or a sense of “real school.”

What It Looks Like in Real Life

  • With Acellus, my kids had an actual rhythm — assignments, grading, and that “school” feeling.

  • With Power, it was like an endless stream of YouTube lessons. The content was fine, but without interaction, they got bored fast and I ended up stepping in more than I planned.

Reset Mama’s Takeaway

Neither platform is perfect. Acellus feels more like school, with accreditation and interaction baked in — but you pay for it. Power Homeschool is cheaper and flexible but puts more weight back on you as the parent.

If you just need affordable lessons, Power is fine. But if you want long-term accountability and official recognition, Acellus is worth it.
